FINAL Prediction for Monday, March 13, 2023

Good evening everyone! Attached is the FINAL Prediction for Monday, March 13, 2023.

The Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from 6 AM Monday until 8 PM Tuesday; however, snowfall estimates from the National Weather Service have increased from 3 to 9 inches to 6 to 12 inches. This will likely bolster the closing odds for Tuesday (Second Prediction coming out tomorrow morning), but doesn’t really change the expectations for tomorrow. Temperatures are still going to be around freezing in the morning and will quickly rise above freezing during the day. They are not expected to drop below freezing until after midnight Monday night. Therefore, I decided to stick with the First Prediction idea of closings for the upper elevated districts and either delays or regular days for the lower elevated districts. I did receive some questions about the possibilities for early dismissals: I do not believe these will be likely as the most prone parts of the school day with regards to slick conditions will be tomorrow morning and after midnight Monday night. Further, in the vast majority of cases, districts that conduct a delay usually cannot do early dismissals and vice versa, and I could see delays as a much more possible outcome than an early dismissal.

Do keep an eye out for school alerts over the next 48 hours. I do have to admit my confidence is low for this prediction given the multiple conflicting factors; it’s hard to fathom a Regular Day when a Winter Storm Watch or Warning is in effect, but I could see it happening… it’s been the theme of this winter. Have a great rest of your evening everyone and thank you for the support!
