First Prediction for Wednesday, March 9, 2022

Good afternoon everyone! I hope your week is off to a good start. Attached is the First Prediction for Wednesday, March 9, 2022.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 AM tomorrow until 10 PM tomorrow. During this time, 2 to 5 inches of snowfall is to be expected, with the higher accumulations occurring in the elevated areas. On the surface, this appears like a strong argument for closings – and it is – which is why I am favoring the closing scenario. However, warm ground temperatures and the sun angle this time of year may cause snow accumulations to happen initially. This could provide a window for school districts to squeeze in early dismissals. Further, model guidance will have air temperatures around freezing – this too will be elevation dependent. If temperatures remain above freezing in the morning hours, then schools would likely early dismiss. However, if temperatures are at or below freezing (which, there are some hints of a weak trend towards this), then I can very well see closings pan out.

I plan on issuing the Final Prediction later this evening. Have a great day everyone and thank you for the support!
