Good evening everyone! Attached is the FINAL Prediction for Tuesday, January 26, and the First Prediction for Wednesday, January 27, 2021.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 AM Tuesday until 4 AM Wednesday. While snow forecasts have decreased to around an inch, ice potential has increased to 0.1 to 0.2 inches of accumulation. The timing is not good for the bus runs on Tuesday and usually with snow/ice events it is all about timing. As we are beginning to see in our region, schools are announcing plans to go virtual tomorrow in anticipation of the inclement weather; this makes sense since the virtual day allows schools to “count” the day and eliminates the concern for the bus runs. At the time of this writing, only Pocono Mountain is the only district in Monroe County to go virtual tomorrow. However, other districts in the Lehigh Valley have begun to announce virtual plans for tomorrow. The Lehigh Valley can (not always) be a bellwether for how districts in Monroe County will react. Keep an eye out for announcements this evening into tomorrow morning.
Winter weather is expected to continue into the wee-hours Wednesday morning. Considering schools need time to clean-up after a snow event and the timing of the morning bus runs, I suspect delays will be likely across the region. I will caution though that the virtual day option and hybrid schedules may throw a wrench into how schools would usually react. For example, some districts are not delaying this year to keep the schedules simpler; others may go the “other” simple route of going virtual for the day. As always keep an eye out for announcements from your local sources.
The plan is for me to release the Final Prediction for Wednesday tomorrow early evening. If schools happen to announce Wednesday plans before then, then the First Prediction stands.
