Good afternoon everyone! I hope your weekend has been going well for you.
As some of you may have seen on the Twitter page, the upcoming weather for this week is likely going to cause multiple school reactions, perhaps back-to-back closings. In response, I have started to issue predictions — as of now, there are not one, not two, not three… not four… but five predictions that are currently issued. I am informally calling this week #PredictionPaloozaWeek — I think we will need some humor to look back on after this week is over. All five predictions are attached.
I am going to try to summarize this week as best and short as I can. Under one inch of snow is expected for the remainder of today, but I am not anticipating lingering impacts into Monday; hence, I am favoring a Regular Day. On Tuesday, 3 to 6 inches of snow is expected to start in the morning. If it starts before 9/10 AM (which I am favoring), closings will be more likely; alternatively, if snow starts after this point, early dismissals become probable.
This snow is expected to continue into early Wednesday morning; as it does so, temperatures will be dropping rapidly from around freezing to well below freezing during the evening and night hours on Tuesday. Any wet or slushy surface is anticipated to hard freeze. When considering roads, schools, and buses may not be ready by school hours Wednesday morning and when factoring in cold temperatures and wind chills, closings become a serious possibility.
The incoming arctic air will be on the same scale as the MLK Day outbreak last week; if it is a repeat, then I think closings will be likely on Thursday, followed by delays on Friday.
Please see the prediction graphics below as the go more in detail on the thought processes each day. If you have not already, also check out the Premium site, which issues predictions for 12 counties across Northeastern PA, including the Scranton and Lehigh Valley areas. Take a look!
