Good evening everyone! I hope your weekend ended on a good note.
At this point, ALL Monroe County school districts are delayed for tomorrow, January 22. I will note a few elevated districts, such as Wallenpaupack and North Pocono, have closed. I would not be surprised if Pocono Mountain conducts a re-evaluation tomorrow morning and potentially closes because of poor road conditions.
To add insult to injury, it looks like there is a risk for freezing rain Wednesday afternoon; below is the First Prediction for January 23, 2019. As of now, 0.05 inches of ice and perhaps up to half an inch of snow is expected to enter the region around or just after noon on Wednesday. Historically, 0.05 inches of ice has been enough to cause school reactions. I think with an intimidating radar image and the possibility for Winter Weather Advisories to be issued, I believe there is a valid argument for an early dismissal. However, temperatures are expected to rise above freezing at some point Wednesday afternoon and evening; the sooner this occurs, the less likely for a reaction. We have to monitor forecast trends very carefully.
Given some districts closed for tomorrow, be on the lookout for possible re-evaluations tomorrow morning. Have a safe evening everyone and thank you for the support!
