FINAL Prediction for Monday, April 2, 2018

Good evening everyone. Mother Nature is refusing to end winter. Attached is the FINAL Prediction for Monday, April 2, 2018; and no, this is not an April Fool’s joke, unfortunately.

The National Weather Service remains steadfast with their 3 to 5, locally 6, inch forecast for the Poconos. However, they did increase their snow forecast to around 6 inches for the Lehigh Valley. Their forecast implies the heaviest axis of snow would be located over the I-78 corridor; however, model guidance suggests a more northerly solution, which would put the heaviest snow over the Poconos. Do not be surprised if the area ends up with 6 inches of accumulations.

Based on the timing of this event, morning bus runs will be significantly impacted by this system, and I do not believe, in my opinion, delays will be adequate in providing time for road conditions to improve. 1 to 2 inches-per-hour snowfall rates are expected between 4 and 9 AM tomorrow morning, which will cause issues to the morning commute. To me, the data is pointing towards a closing scenario for schools that are scheduled to be open tomorrow (Pleasant Valley and Pocono Mountain).

I suspect schools will wait until the morning to make a decision, which is understandable given how many snow days the area has experienced this winter. Continue to monitor for updates this evening and tomorrow morning. Have a safe evening, a good rest of your Easter, and as always thank you for the support.
