First Prediction for January 24, 2017

Good morning everyone. Attached is the First Prediction for Tuesday, January 24, 2017. There have been changes to the forecast that results in impacts for today and tomorrow…

Instead of upgrading the Winter Storm Watch to a Warning, the NWS has issued an Winter Weather Advisory instead. The advisory goes from 8 AM this morning until 11 AM on Tuesday.

Schools did not close this morning because the radar was clear around 4/5 AM this morning. According to short-range models, the precipitation could hold off as late as 2/3 PM. I do not recall a past advisory that started 6 hours before the precipitation began. With all of this being said, I still think the school districts are going to early dismiss as a precaution.

Now we get to Tuesday. The advisory will be in effect well into Tuesday morning as below freezing temperatures (particularly in the mountains) are likely to promote additional snow and sleet accumulations. Since I am expecting roads conditions to be in poor in the morning, I suspect schools may end up closing in the morning. The Final Prediction for Tuesday will be released tonight.

I would recommend avoiding unnecessary travel during this event. Please watch for school announcements as I am going to be working from 8 AM until 12 PM — updates may be limited. If you want to get text alerts for any school announcements, text @vwwmonroe to 81010. Have a good and safe day everyone.
