FINAL Prediction for January 10, 2017

Good evening everyone! Attached is the Final Prediction for January 10, 2017. New information has developed regarding Tuesday’s weather event — let’s jump right in…

Overall, the idea of light snow developing in the afternoon on Tuesday then transitioning to ice in the evening and overnight hours is still the going forecast. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory which will go into effect at 11 AM tomorrow. The timing of the advisory supports the idea for early dismissals.

There are two main points that support the early dismissal argument: first, the timing of the advisory; and second, the radar may look “intimidating” in the morning hours. Even though short-range models have limited accumulations during the afternoon hours, the school districts typically rely on the National Weather Service and their advisories as their #1 source to make decision.

I do want to be clear — it is possible for early dismissals to not occur; if so, I think no activities would be the “fallback.” If you are a parent, please make sure your children are completing their homework for ALL classes tomorrow; I am not responsible for 0s on assignments or poor test grades.

I will keep an eye on the weather, but I do have work between 8 AM and 12 PM; updates may be limited. If you want to get text alerts for Monroe County school districts and for my predictions, text @vwwmonroe to 81010 (don’t forget the @). Thanks again for the support and have a great evening everyone!
