Saturday Snow and Ice Event: Region-Wide Impacts Expected

Good evening everyone. I do want to discuss tomorrow’s snow and ice event since I am expecting region-wide impacts.

Starting around midnight tonight, snow should begin to fall and increase in intensity as the early morning hours progress. Just after dawn, a change over to sleet and freezing rain is expected. The big problem with this system is heavy precipitation rates are anticipated between dawn and noon. Any snow or mixed precipitation falling during this time period is likely to rapidly accumulate (1″+ of snow per hour). The precipitation should subside beginning around noon.

3 to 6 inches of snow and 0.2 to 0.3 inches of ice is possible on Saturday; expect road conditions to quickly deteriorate (and in some cases become impassable) by dawn. Travel is strongly advised against during the morning and afternoon hours on Saturday. We also have to watch for lingering impacts into Sunday as meteorologists are concerned for flash-freeze threats Sunday night — and this could result in delays Monday morning.

Stay safe during this event and thank you all for the support towards this service, it is appreciated.
