First Prediction for December 12, 2016

Good evening everyone. After a long week of finals, I am finally able to take a good look at Monday’s event — and Monday looks very interesting.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 PM Sunday until 9 AM Monday. I am anticipating 2 to 5 inches of snow and 0.1 to 0.25 inches of ice. My ice forecast is more aggressive than other outlets, but I am concerned a 1 to 2 hour period of heavy freezing rain could exceed forecasts. We have to monitor trends over the next day.

While temperatures will gradually go above freezing as the morning progresses, I am skeptical a delay is going to allow enough time for roads to improve, especially for the mountain areas. Therefore, I like the idea of a 3-day weekend for students on Monday.

There is nothing fun about ice. Commuters have to consider that this event is happening in the middle of rush hour. I will post the Second Prediction tomorrow; have a good evening everyone.
