First Prediction for March 3, 2026

Good evening everyone! I hope you enjoyed your weekend. It seems like winter’s last grasp will be this Tuesday: a First Prediction has been issued.

A warm front will be approaching the region on Tuesday: temperatures will be in the 20s in the morning, but will rapidly rise above freezing by noon for most. Precipitation will be moving in around 10 AM and there will be a period of very light snow (0.5 inches) and a light glaze of freezing rain (less than 0.05 inches) before changing to rain. Because frozen precipitation is expected to be light and with temperatures expected to get above freezing into the mid-30s by noon, it would actual make more sense to have afternoon buses be on the road at their normal times, rather than earlier in the day. The morning buses will be unaffected as they will complete their runs before the precipitation arrives. Therefore, I am favoring a Regular Day, for most…

A similar, but different story, will be the case for Pocono Mountain. The issue here is temperatures will struggle to get above freezing until much later in the day: closer to 4 PM. As a result, precipitation that does fall will remain frozen types (snow/freezing rain) for longer, and therefore increase accumulations. In this case, I think an early dismissal makes more sense give road conditions are not going to improve by waiting until the normal afternoon runs; if anything, it could be worse.

The Final Prediction for Tuesday will be released tomorrow evening. As the 13th winter of this service comes to a close, I do want to thank everyone for their support over the many years – I would not be doing this without you all and it is a pleasure to do it. Have a great rest of your evening!
