Good evening everyone! We have some weather updates for this upcoming winter storm. The FINAL Prediction for Monday and the First Prediction for Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7 AM Sunday until 6 PM Monday. The National Weather Service is calling for 8 to 16 inches of snowfall, which I agree with. The area is going to be right on the edge between heavy snowfall rates (especially in New Jersey) and light snowfall due to sinking air (Central PA). In these types of situations, a difference of 25 miles can change accumulations from 6 inches to 18 inches. There are other wildcards that can cause some isolated very high accumulations (2 feet); while there is a chance this could happen to the area, the exact likiehood is unknown. It is also possible for near-blizzard conditions to occur if heavy snow coincides with windy conditions.
For schools, it is very likely districts are going to close or go virtual for Monday. Tuesday becomes a bigger question and is heavily dependent on how much snow the area receives. If the area gets the lower end of the forecast range, delays become likely. But, if snowfall exceeds a foot, I think extended closings become more realistic.
The plan is to issue the Second Prediction tomorrow evening. Make sure you are adequately prepared for this event. Be safe everyone and thank you for the support!
