Continued Cold: Prediction for Monday, February 2, 2026

Good afternoon everyone! I hope your weekend is going well. Bitterly cold wind chills are holding on to the region, and they will likely continue for one more day into tomorrow. A prediction has been issued as a result.

The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory in effect until 10 AM Monday, calling for wind chill values as low as -14*F. While this is below the advisory threshold of -10*F, the one thing that is bugging me is the potential desire for normalcy. The past week has been crazy, to say the least, with no Regular Days at all. While, in theory, the conditions are in place to justify delays, what I don’t know is how eager districts are to get back to a regular school schedule, hence the 40% Regular Day chance. That said, the expected wind chill factor is cold enough below the minimal threshold of -10*F that I think will be enough to cause delays one more time, but admittedly, my confidence is low.

Please keep an eye out for announcements this evening. In these types of situations, schools usually (not guaranteed) will make a decision the night before with no morning re-evaluation, as temperatures and wind chills are more reliably predictable compared to road conditions. Thank you everyone for the support, stay warm, and have a great rest of your weekend!
