Updated Predictions for Thursday, January 29, and Friday, January 30, 2026

Good afternoon everyone. Yesterday, we had mentioned there will be a certain point when districts would want to get students back into school, and we saw that this morning. Most districts in Monroe County went in under a delay, while Pocono Mountain went virtual again. At this point, from a prediction standpoint, the impacts from Sunday’s storm are now behind us (with the exception of Pocono Mountain, where, setting aside cold temperatures, they would probably delay tomorrow).

But, the problem is we are still dealing with bitterly cold temperatures and wind chills. The National Weather Service has a Cold Weather Advisory in effect for tomorrow morning, calling for -17*F wind chills. By Friday morning, those will chills are expected to get into the -20s, which would be Extreme Cold Warning territory. While these reactions are not guaranteed, school districts tend to delay when advisories are issued and close or go virtual with warnings. With all of this considered, I am favoring the delay scenario for tomorrow and I still think closings/virtual days are likely for Friday.

Thank you all for support over the last several days – this week has felt endless, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel to a sense of normalcy once we get to this weekend. Stay warm, feel free to comment below any school announcements, and have a great rest of your evening.
