First Predictions for Thursday, February 6, and Friday, February 7, 2025

Good evening everyone and Happy Tuesday! We have winter weather on tap this week and it looks to be very icy. Attached is the First Prediction for Thursday, February 6, and Friday, February 7, 2025.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 12 AM Thursday until 12 PM Thursday. The National Weather Service is anticipating around one inch of snow and sleet and between 0.1 and 0.2 inches of ice accrual. The timing of this is very poor for the morning commute, let alone the morning bus runs. As a result, Closings appear to be very likely and I would not be surprised to see closing or virtual calls tomorrow evening.

The big question becomes Friday. Typically the day after an impactful event, schools have a tendency to delay. However, it is not necessarily a slam dunk since temperatures are expected to rise above freezing at some point in the afternoon hours on Thursday and will not drop that much below freezing during Thursday night. With that said though, schools will still need time to prepare, temperatures will still technically fall below freezing, and with these types of storm setups cold air tends to linger longer than forecast. Therefore, I do favor the delay argument for Friday.

In other news, I am very excited to annouce a new feature on the Premium Site: Zip Code Predictions! Simply enter your zip code and get a customized prediction for your local area and this has potential use for locations outside of NEPA! It has been an effort to get the algorithm to this point and I have a few additional ideas in mind. Check it out!

Thank you everyone for the support; it means a lot. Have a great rest of your evening!
