Weekend Winter Storm and Tuesday’s First Prediction

Good evening everyone! I hope you are having a great weekend. We have a couple of weather topics to go over, including a First Prediction for Tuesday. Buckle up!

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the county: 5 to 8 inches of snowfall is anticipated between 10 AM Sunday and 1 AM Monday. With Sunday being part of the weekend and Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, schools will naturally be closed on these days. However, if schools would have been in session, Sunday would be a close call between Closings and Early Dismissals (but I would probably lean toward closings) and Monday would probably have been Delays due to lingering icy conditions into the morning as well as time needed to prepare schools post-storm.

As for Tuesday, very cold temperatures are expected to enter the region; combined with winds, wind chill factors will exceed -10*F and perhaps reach -20*F in some spots. Compared to the January 9th cold snap, this event will be colder. I am anticipating Cold Weather Advisories to be issued at a minium, with possibile Cold Weather Warning if the forecast gets cold enough (<-20*F for most of the county). As a result, I do think Delays are likely for the county, with Closings on the table if the forecast trends cold enough.

I do want to mention this is a great time to check out Premium membership! Premium members get access to school predictions out to four days in advance for 12 counties across NEPA, including Scranton, the Poconos, and the Lehigh Valley areas. The site also includes weather forecast data, oberservations, and long range school closing risks out to six days out. It’s a great way to support the service and membership lasts a full year (signing up today would include early next winter too).

I will post the Second Prediction for Tuesday tomorrow evening. Have a great rest of your day and thank you for the support!
