Good evening everyone and Happy Wednesday! Attached is the FINAL Prediction for Thursday, January 9, 2025.
A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for the area from 7 PM this evening until 10 AM tomorrow morning. Cold Weather Advisories have replaced the original Wind Chill Advisories. Wind chill factor still determines if the advisory is issued or not, but the threshold has changed: the previous threshold of -15*F has been raised to -10*F to better align with climatology (per the Mount Holly National Weather Service office). As a side, Cold Weather Warnings will be issued at -20*F or colder (replacing the Wind Chill Warning threshold of -25*F).
Historically, Wind Chill Advisories correlated well with school delays. Given this is the first time we are seeing these advisories in action for a school day, I am not 100% certain school districts will follow the new thresholds; my gut tells me yes, but I cannot speak for them. Given the details of the Cold Weather Advisory indicate wind chills can get down to -15*F, I do think delays are likely, even if we use the “old” thresholds. Below is the Mount Holly’s infographic on tonight’s cold.
Do keep an eye out for any potential school announcements from tonight into tomorrow morning. Stay warm everyone and have a great rest of your evening!
