Final Prediction for Monday, December 16, 2024

Good evening everyone! Attached is the FINAL Prediction for Monday, December 16, 2024.

The forecast has trended a touch snowier: the National Weather Service is calling for 1 to 4 inches of snowfall (from 1 to 3) and less than than a tenth (previously expecting a light glaze). Elevation will play a factor in how much snowfall occurs: higher elevated areas will likely get the higher-end of the snowfall range, and vice-versa for the lower elevations. As a result, I think it is a valid possibility for school districts in the county to have varied reactions and I am predicting a mix of closings and delays. I could foresee Pocono Mountain and possibily East Stroudsburg closing, whereas Pleasant Valley and Stroudsburg delay, but it depends on district-specific conditions. Ultimately, this is why I opted for a 50/50 split.

Keep an eye out tonight in case school districts happen to make any announcements. Also keep in mind the typcial morning decision time is between 4 and 6 AM. If a delay occurs, the delay creates a re-evaluation window later that matches the delay. For example, a two hour delay would create a re-evaluation window between 6 and 8 AM, a three hour delay would create a 7 to 9 AM window, etc. Lastly, districts do not necessarily have to change their decision to a closing during the re-evaluation window: they could re-evaluate and decide a delay is sufficient.

Thanks everyone for the support and have a safe rest of your evening!
