Good evening everyone! The First Prediction for Monday, December 16, 2024 is out and we have a few things to talk about.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 PM Sunday until 9 AM Monday. The National Weather Service is anticipating 1 to 3 inches of snowfall and a light glaze of ice. Temperatures will start out below freezing for all locations across the county but are expected to gradually rise above freezing as the day progresses.
To me, this is a pretty good setup for delays on Monday: 1 to 3 inches of snow timed overnight and up to the morning decision timeframe (4 AM to 6 AM) has a strong historical trend to cause delays. One wildcard we need to watch are temperature trends: when high pressure centered over New England is supplying cold air to the Poconos, it can have a tendency of lingering longer than what forecasts and model guidance project. If this were to verify and if snowfall totals end up on the higher end of the range, then closings are possible due to roads and temperatures not improving fast enough.
I will be issuing the Final Prediction tomorrow evening. Thanks everyone for the support and have a wonderful rest of your evening!
