FINAL Predictions for Thursday November 21 and Friday November 22, 2024

Good morning everyone! Below are the FINAL Predictions for Thursday November 21 and Friday November 22, 2024.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 4 PM Thursday until 4 PM Friday. The National Weather Service is anticipating 4 to 8 inches of snowfall in areas above 1,500 feet and limited snowfall beneath. Their latest snowfall map illustrates this well. They did increase the lower elevation totals from under 1 inch to 1 to 2 inches. Temperatures are expected to be below freezing for areas above 1,500 feet, while above freezing below 1,500 feet.

Considering elevation is playing a major factor in this event, I think the best way to approach this is to do a district-by-district breakdown…

Pocono Mountain: I could see them canceling activities with rain converting to snow later this afternoon. Given they will experience impactful snowfall from this evening through tomorrow, I think it is highly likely they will either close or go virtual.

Pleasant Valley: Thanks to the community, I learned if the weather impacts school operations enough, they will opt to close instead of conducting their early dismissal. To me, I interpret this as if conditions would warrant only a two hour delay, they would still close. Therefore, it creates an all-or-nothing situation of closing or not. Considering this, I have a suspection they could end up closing on Friday, with normal activities today.

Stroudsburg: Stroudsburg, being located generally in the lower elevations, will likely receive little snowfall. Also considering the temperature forecast (above freezing), I would not be surprised if they end up having Regular Days for both today and tomorrow.

East Stroudsburg: East Stroudsburg, being nestled between both lower and higher elevated regions, is going to be a wild card for tomorrow. Considering this, I am leaning towards a middle-of-the-road approach with a delay for them on Friday, with normal activities today.

In summary, the FINAL Predicitons are as follows:

Thursday, November 22: Regular Day: 75%, No Activities: 25%.

Friday, November 21: Closing 50%, Delay: 25%, Regular Day: 25%.

I will caution confidence as a whole is relatively low for this event given the various factors at play, but this is my best “dart-throw” at the situation. Please keep an eye out for school alerts for both today and tomorrow. Have a great day everyone, be safe, and thank you for the support!
