Happy Sunday everyone! The predictions are back as possible freezing rain is in the forecast for this week. Attached are the First Predictions for Tuesday and Wednesday, January 24, 2024.
A warm front is expected to approach the region Tuesday afternoon or evening, but there is strong disagreement in when precisely it will arrive, what type of precpitiation (freezing rain or just rain) will occur, and how long it will last until (Thursday night or Wednesday morning). Each of these three variables are critical in determining how schools may react on Tuesday and Wednesday. My “gut” is telling me freezing rain is going to occur at some point during Tuesday/Wednesday timeframe, but how much and when is still a question. Below is one model’s idea of what could happen; if this projection becomes the probable forecast, early dismissals for Tuesday become are likely.
From what I can piece together looking at model guidance and forecasts, I think two situation could happen: either freezing rain will occur Tuesday afternoon, which introduces an early dismissal or no activities risk, or freezing rain occurs midnight Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, creating a delay or closing risk. Out of conservatism, I am going to favor Regular Days for both Tuesday and Wednesday for now, but I anticipate these odds to drastically shift once model guidance and forecasts come to an agreement on what will happen.
My current plan is to issue Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s Second Prediction tomorrow evening, Tuesday’s Final Prediction Tuesday morning, and Wednesday’s Final Prediction Tuesday night. Have a great evening everyone and thank you for the support!
