Happy Sunday ladies and gentlemen! I hope your weekend went well. Attached is the First Prediction for Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
A weak area of low pressure will be passing by the region on Tuesday and light snow is to accompany it. Snow is expected to arrive around midnight Monday night/Tuesday morning and will last until the afternoon hours on Tuesday. While most model guidance is show raw snow outputs of 2 to 3 inches, cold temperatures leading to higher snow ratios should result in slightly higher snowfall (closer to 3 to 4 inches), which is in alignment with the latest National Weather Service forecast.
As far as school reactions go, 3 inches of snowfall timed just right has a history of causing school closings. Given the snowfall is expected to occur early Tuesday morning and into the afternoon, I am having a hard time seeing a decent travel window for buses Tuesday morning. As a result, I am favoring the closing scenario for all districts in Monroe County. The only possible other scenario I can think of would be delays, but I just do not believe it is a practical option, unless the forecast trends towards less snow.
