First Prediction for Tuesday, January 18, 2022

Good evening everyone and Happy Saturday! Attached is the First Prediction for Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 6 PM Sunday until 12 PM Monday. The National Weather Service now expect 2 to 4 inches of snowfall, but has increased its ice forecast to 0.2 to 0.4 inches of ice. Add in the combination of wind gusts to 45 mph, there is also a risk for power outages in play. Whenever the region experiences a moderate to major winter weather event, typically school districts delay the next day due to time needed to clean up buildings and to account for black ice forming overnight.

I am favoring the delay scenario for Tuesday, but there is a “boom” and “bust” scenario. If the snow and ice is worse than expected and if the region experiences widespread power outages, then I can see some districts closing. On the flip side, if road conditions improve quick enough, schools may be able to conduct a Regular Day.

I will issue the Second Prediction for Tuesday tomorrow; have a great evening everyone and thank you for the support!
