Good evening everyone! Attached is the FINAL Prediction for Friday, December 18, 2020.
Our area received less snow than forecast, ranging from 8 to 15 inches of total accumulations, with some locally higher amounts. Now the question is will school districts react tomorrow due to lingering impacts. Road reports are mixed: some areas are clear and dry, while other back roads are still snow covered and will be prone to freezing up overnight tonight. Additionally, schools around and just north of Scranton are announcing closings for tomorrow, but keep in mind they received a lot more snowfall than us. With that said, some districts in the Lehigh Valley (notably Nazareth) have already announced delays for tomorrow; the Lehigh Valley can be a proxy as to how schools will react here in Monroe County.
Taking a middle of the road approach, I do favor delays tomorrow. However, I would not discount the possibility for districts going 100% virtual or adhering to a Regular Day due to the hybrid schedules. I have seen commentary from Northampton Area School District that they will not be doing delays this winter, which opens up the door to a wide variety of outcomes. I do not know if our local districts will be able to conduct delays as part of their hybrid plans; I am assuming they can unless we see or hear otherwise. In essence, I suspect delays will be the most common reaction tomorrow, but I am also expecting a lot of variation from district to district. Keep an eye out for school announcements tonight into tomorrow morning. Be safe everyone and thank you for the support!
