Good afternoon everyone. Attached is the FINAL Prediction for Thursday, February 21, 2019.
Looks like my bias for being too conservative kicked in today — schools from Monroe County through the Lehigh Valley and points southwest decided to close. Those in Pike County and around the Scranton area did conduct early dismissals. 10 AM is “the fence” between early dismissals and closings and I simply was too aggressive with the early dismissal odds looking hindsight.
But, we move forward. This event will continue through the overnight hours. While temperatures are expected to rise above freezing in the morning, observations are indicating forecasts are not cold enough for this event, which tells me icing may last longer than anticipated. Given these trends, and noting the conservative reaction of school districts today, I am re-favoring the closing scenario for tomorrow. I would not be surprised if school districts delay tonight followed by re-evaluations in the morning.
