FINAL Prediction for February 20 and Second Prediction for February 21, 2019

Good evening everyone! Attached is the FINAL Prediction for Wednesday, February 20, and the Second Prediction for Thursday, February 21, 2019.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 10 AM Wednesday until 6 AM Thursday. The National Weather Service now expects 1 to 4 inches of snow and 0.1 inches of ice, which is slightly less than previous forecasts. There are reliable outlets (EPAWA) that are calling for 4 to 6 inches of snow, so we need to monitor trends carefully.

As far as school reactions, I still like the idea for early dismissals tomorrow. The 10 AM start time is almost too soon in the day to squeeze in early dismissals, but I think schools should be okay in doing so. In regards to Thursday, a quicker transition to above-freezing temperatures and less snow forecasted by the National Weather Service has reduced the closing odds. However, I am cautiously skeptical because forecasts have a tendency of warming temperatures too quickly in these scenarios. I will be watching for changes throughout the day tomorrow.

If you are interested in helping out the service, I have hoodies and coffee mugs available for sale. In addition, there is a Premium site which offers county-by-county predictions up to four days in advance for Northeast PA, including the Scranton and Allentown areas. Check them out here!
