First Prediction for Friday, March 2, 2018

Good evening everyone. Attached is the First Prediction for Friday, March 2, 2018.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch, calling for 4 to 6 inches of heavy wet snow between 6 AM Friday and 6 AM Saturday. However, the meteorology community is concerned for higher snow totals (6 to 12 inches), particularly in the higher elevations — they are concerned colder temperatures than projected by models may occur, resulting in more snow. The system responsible for the snow is expected to stall offshore, which is why this event may be prolonged. Regardless, due to the all-day impacts anticipated on Friday, I would not be surprised if schools make closing calls tomorrow night.

My plan is to issue the Final Prediction tomorrow afternoon around 2 PM. From 3 PM until 7 PM, I will be in class presenting group work, so I may not be available to announce any school alerts promptly — make sure to tune into your local sources. Have a good evening everyone.
