Good evening everyone. Attached is the FINAL Prediction for Tuesday, January 16 and the First Prediction for Wednesday, January 17. We have a lot to cover this evening, so let’s get to it…
A Winter Weather Weather Advisory has been issued for the area; the National Weather Service anticipates 4 to 6 inches of snow from 5 AM Tuesday until 6 AM Wednesday. Model guidance is supportive of this forecast. Given the start time of the advisory, the projected radar image in the morning, and the trend towards higher snowfall totals, there is a very strong argument for closings on Tuesday. In my opinion, I think it will be difficult to pull off early dismissals given the current forecast, though they are still possible, particularly for the Lehigh Valley.
The snow is expected to continue through Tuesday night up until Wednesday morning. I am concerned snow showers will linger until dawn, not allowing road conditions to improve enough for the morning bus runs. Delays, while possible, may be ineffective in avoiding poor road conditions. These factors are why I am in favor of closings on Wednesday, but delays are still a valid outcome.
I plan on issuing the Second Prediction for Wednesday tomorrow morning. Pay attention to your local sources over the next few days for announcements. I would expect road conditions to gradually worsen as the day progresses tomorrow. Be safe and have a good evening.
