FINAL Prediction for December 15, 2017

Good morning everyone. Mother Nature is not ready to give up the snow for our area…

As a last-minute surprise, light snow is expected to occur starting around 1 PM this afternoon, lasting a few hours into the evening. While the National Weather Service does not have any accumulations in the forecast (as of 6:51 AM), short-range model guidance is in the ballpark of 0.5 to 1 inch of snow.

The biggest wildcard in this scenario is the fact the snow will develop suddenly and out-of-the-blue. The radar is and will be clear for the rest of the morning up until noon. The typical early dismissal decision point is around 11 AM given the need to coordinate lunches; if no snow is on the radar around this time, this will keep the early dismissal odds low. However, as snow develops quickly around 1 PM, I would not be surprised to see schools cancel after school activities at the last minute. Temperatures will be cold enough to support road accumulations. Given my typical bias is to not be aggressive enough on predictions (evident by yesterday’s event), I am putting No Activities as the favored predicted outcome.

Keep an eye on the radar and your local school sources for any announcements. Have a great Friday!
