Just before the start of the hurricane season (June 1), there is strong likelihood Tropical Storm Bonnie will form in the western Atlantic. The National Hurricane Center has given the disturbance a 90% chance to develop into a depression or tropical storm within the next 48 hours.
Model guidance is in strong agreement future Bonnie will make landfall in South Carolina. Afterwards, it is expected to turn northeast along the East Coast. This will not be a major event for the United States as this system is not expected to become a hurricane; it will be more of a rain-maker than anything else.
In terms of impacts to our neck-of-the-woods, it could allow more rainfall the evening of Memorial Day into the following day. Otherwise, nothing major or disruptive is expected. Keep an eye on National Hurricane Center forecasts. Have a good weekend and Happy Memorial Day.
